SCMEP Launches New Web Site
SCMEP launched its new web site in July, providing enhanced information and services for its clients and stakeholders in South Carolina. Highlights of the new site include a Metalworking Database, searchable archives, information on partner events, and a direct link to the Questline(TM) service. Neil McLean, CIO for SCMEP, said "The challenge in building a site like this is making information easy to find . . . we've accomplished that and feel our clients will benefit from the additional functionality we're providing."
The Metalworking Database provides users the ability to search for suppliers based on distinct capabilities as well as location. If you're in need of a metalworking vendor, the site should help you out! Special needs are often best fulfilled by local enterprises. Benefits include cheaper shipping costs, having real people close at hand to talk to, and maintaining a network of locally supported industries. John Irion, SCMEP president, said, "Our strategic intent with the Metalworking Database is to improve supply chains within the State of South Carolina." To get your company listed in the database, call your local SCMEP Manufacturing Specialist (see www.scmep.org/manspec.asp) or Tim Sinclair at 803.252.6976, ext. 236.
SCMEP provides case studies and other useful information through many different vehicles for its clients. Much of this content is now available in the searchable archives available on the web site. As case studies or new issues of SCMEP's magazine, The Competitive Edge, are released, the archives will grow in value. To use the archives, site users enter key words in the "search" boxes located throughout the site.
SCMEP's Manufacturing Education program, in partnership with the South Carolina Technical College system, provides training courses and informational events to manufacturers statewide. Many of these events are highlighted on the web site. SCMEP will also make use of its electronic newsletter to push this information out to clients as it becomes available. If you would like to receive our newsletter, go to www.scmep.org and submit your email address or contact us at info@scmep.org.
Free of charge, current SCMEP customers can use the national Questline service for answers to manufacturing questions and problems. The Questline service integrates a Technical and Business Information Hotline, an Internet Resource Service and a Newsletter Marketing Tool--as a means to assist utilities, MEPs and other organizations with market penetration, customer service and lead generation goals. Manufacturers can perform comprehensive searches of all databases and resources on topics such as lean manufacturing, look for previously answered questions in archives, and search for expert tips and guides. Whether you're a new user or an existing user, Questline can now be accessed directly from the web site.
