Composites Initiative

Composites represent the fastest growing segment of manufacturing.  Industries such as Aerospace & Defense, Transportation and Construction/infrastructure are transitioning more and more from traditional metal components to reinforced composites - delivering lightweight, high-quality and cost-effecient major structures.  Other industries like marine, sporting goods and consumer products are also making the move towards using advanced composites.

In cooperation with research university partners, SCMEP is continuing to structure programs to drive the technology and innovation of emerging markets into the manufacturing companies of South Carolina.  With this goal, SCMEP is looking to champion an initiative to elevate the relevance and technical expertise of the entire Southeast in composites manufacturing. 

We are in the beginning phases of this initiative and would like to have input from all composites manufacturers in the Southeast as to what are some of the biggest challenges and hurdles you currently face.  Armed with this information, we hope to develop solutions specifically designed to tackle these issues and increase the competitiveness of composites manufacturers here in the United States.  If you are a composites manufacturer and would like to participate and provide input for this program, please contact your local SCMEP Manufacturing Specialist.
